Months after the elections, women in Delhi are still waiting for the promised ₹2500 under the Mahila Samman Yojana. The BJP had announced this scheme during its campaign, but so far, no registration or application process has started.
BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva Breaks Silence
In a recent media interaction, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva shared that preparations are ongoing and the process will begin soon. A total budget of ₹5000 crore has been set aside for the scheme, but guidelines are still being finalized to ensure smooth and fair distribution.
Why the Delay? Irregularities in Previous Schemes
Sachdeva explained that the delay is due to irregularities found in older government schemes. For example, over 83,000 ineligible women were receiving widow pensions, with no official records. This led to a misuse of nearly ₹200 crore. Similarly, in the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana, ₹15 crore was approved, but ₹145 crore was spent.
BJP Wants Transparent Distribution
To avoid the mistakes of previous governments, BJP is designing strict guidelines. The aim is to ensure that only deserving women receive the ₹2500 monthly support and no money is wasted or misused.
Will There Be an Announcement on August 15?
There is speculation that the Delhi government may officially launch the scheme on Independence Day. Women from families earning less than ₹2.5 lakh per year are expected to be eligible. Officials are also discussing whether multiple women from the same family can benefit. A possible solution is to treat mother-in-law and daughter-in-law as separate families.
Conclusion: Relief Coming Soon for Delhi Women
Though the delay has raised concerns, BJP leaders assure that the Mahila Samman Yojana is in progress and will be launched soon. Women in Delhi can expect good news in the coming weeks.
