In a major step towards empowering women and promoting eco-friendly transportation, the Delhi government has launched a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0. Under this scheme, women buying an electric two-wheeler in their own name can avail a subsidy of up to ₹46,000.
What is the Women Electric Scooter Subsidy?
The Delhi government is offering a subsidy of ₹12,000 per kilowatt on electric scooters. For scooters with a 3 kW battery, this means a maximum subsidy of ₹36,000. In addition to this, if the woman has a valid driving license, she can receive an extra ₹10,000, bringing the total benefit to ₹46,000.
Objective of the Policy
The main aim of this scheme is to:
- Reduce the use of petrol, diesel, and CNG vehicles
- Promote clean energy
- Empower women by encouraging independent and smart mobility
According to Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, this initiative is part of the government’s effort to ensure environmental protection along with social inclusion.
Who is Eligible?
To benefit from this subsidy:
- The electric two-wheeler must be registered in the name of a woman
- It must be purchased from an approved dealer or platform
- The buyer must register online on the official portal: ev.delhi.gov.in
- The subsidy is applicable only for the first purchase
- An extra ₹10,000 subsidy is available if the woman has a valid driving license
Benefits on Electric Auto-Rickshaws
The policy also covers electric three-wheelers:
- Up to ₹45,000 subsidy on approved e-rickshaws (₹10,000 per kW)
- ₹20,000 scrapping bonus for scrapping old autos (12 years or older)
- ₹1 lakh one-time benefit for converting CNG autos to electric
The government has also stopped issuing new CNG auto permits to encourage electric vehicle adoption.
